A Fishing Net
Fishing is practiced all over the world in myriad forms. While fishing with hooks and line has been around for centuries, it has never been the most practical method of obtaining fish to feed a civilization. While individual subsistence fishing is still an essential part of many cultures, the practice of large-scale fishing requires more advanced tools. The basis of larger fishing operations throughout history has been the fishing net. Nets allow for the mass capture of fish with very little effort. Their development through time closely parallels the development of civilization.
